96 Gillespie is pleased to present this rare exhibition of Baltimore, Maryland's noted visionary artist Daniel Higg's drawings and paintings. This is the first his work has been shown in Europe. He has had a few (rare) showings in the USA in galleries, apartments & taverns. Perhaps most impressively he had a solo show at the now legendary Alleged Gallery in New York City (run by Beautiful Loser's curator Aaron Rose). As well he is a sometimes participant of Rich Jacob's 'Move' series.
As far as his latest works are concerned, the images are
" simultaneously parading in and out of and around infinite edens conjoined honeycomb-fashion, a triumphal procession, the triumph being a simple
suspicion that I\we or anything at all may seem to exist and the music heard all the time no matter what." (dh, sic) This work is bold, clean, metaphorical, marrying the physical with the metaphysical, the real with the figurative, the sacred and the
profane.
Daniel Higgs is the lyrical frontman of Baltimore's Lungfish. "The Lungfish music band is now operating in its seventeeth year. The group's consciousness alternately/ simultaneously coalesces and disperses creating a continuous quasi-musical pulse which reaches climax at semi-monthly public performances." (guess who...)
He is also the poet behind the "Book of Antennae" and "Doomsday Bonnets," the solo electronic artist, Cone of Light and the visionary artist of international renown.
Please join us for a the private view on May 12th. Daniel will be here to share his work and music, with a special performance on the jew's harp.
