by Bronwen Jones/ Eve Libertine
Head On is largely made up of monoprints and mixed media depictions of human heads.
Being the most expressive part of the body face fascinate me. They're usually the first communication with another person. The tiniest facial movement can say so much. Laughter, tears, fear or excitement, the differences can appear so subtle as sometimes to be indistinguishable, yet they have such conflicting meanings.
Eyes, nose and mouth placed on an oval- abstracting these to lines or marks still allows the expression to come through. So what is it that we are responding to? How much is the way we relate to our fellow human beings a reflection of our own prejudice and what other elements come into play?
Head On is in part an attempt to illustrate these complexities.
